ASSESSING METAL RECOVERY OPPORTUNITIES THROUGH BIOLEACHING FROM PAST METALLURGICAL SITES AND WASTE DEPOSITS: UK CASE STUDY

نویسندگان

چکیده

Recovery of metals from former industrial areas (also called brownfields) and closed landfill sites, are critical for future sustainable development reducing the environmental risks they posed. In this study, feasibility using bioleaching resource recovery raw secondary materials a metallurgical site deposit (PMSD) located in UK was investigated. Determination physicochemical parameters (conductivity, pH, moisture ash content) that can affect performance along with metal content analysis were carried out. Field measurement also out portable X-ray fluorescence (pXRF) spectrometer as rapid tool compared induced coupled mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) results. Fe (469,700 mg/kg), Ca (25,900 mg/kg) Zn (14,600 most dominant elements present samples followed by Mn (8,600 Si (3,000 Pb (2,400 mg/kg). The pXRF results demonstrated minimal variance (<10%) ICP-MS preliminary assessment Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans at 5% pulp density 22 g/L energy source 10% (v/v) inoculum pH 1.5 showed 100% Ti Cu, 32% 24% recovered sample material, highlighting opportunities such through processes.

Hazardous solid waste from metallurgical industries.

Types of land disposed residuals from selected metal smelting and refining industries are described, as are the origin and disposition of land disposed residuals from the primary copper industry as an example. Quantities of land-disposed or stored residuals, including slags, sludges, and dusts, are given per unit of metal production for most primary and secondary metal smelting and refining ind...

The evaluation of stack metal emissions from hazardous waste incinerators: assessing human exposure through noninhalation pathways.

Potential public health effects associated with exposure to metal emissions from hazardous waste incinerators through noninhalation pathways were evaluated. Instead of relying on modeling the movement of toxicants through various environmental media, an approach based on estimating changes from baseline levels of exposure was employed. Changes in soil and water As, Cd, Hg, Pb, Cr, and Be concen...

A Review of Technology of Metal Recovery from Electronic Waste

Electronic waste, or e-waste, is an emerging problem with developed nations as with developing nations. In the absence of proper collection and disposal systems, aware‐ ness, and proper regulations, the problem is rather more acute in developing nations. These wastes are environmentally hazardous on one hand and valuable on the other. They contain substantial amount of metal value, including pr...

LCA of metal recovery from waste incineration bottom ash

The important role gained by waste incineration in European waste management systems is recently clashing with increasing concerns about loss of resources in waste, i.e. metals. Even though the recovery of valuable resources in residues from waste incineration is becoming a widespread practice, a significant portions of valuables resources remains in the ash and ends up in disposal sites. The g...
